IC:

Character name: Kousuke Nitou

Fandom: Kamen Rider Wizard

Timeline: Nitou comes from the middle of Episode 26, where he's just been arrested and no one will get him out of jail.

Age: He's in his early 20s.

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Magical is right! Nitou is a wizard--or, at least, the sort of wizard-slash-Kamen Rider his world tends to give birth to. He makes use of an ancient ring and belt to become Kamen Rider Beast, and his other magic is accessed through the use of other ancient magic rings. He has armor, as well as physical strength and speed that is far superior to a normal human.

Beast has four different Mantles he can don in order to fight. Using a Mantle requires use of the corresponding ring and changes his shoulder armor to resemble the animal in question as well as gives him a small shoulder cape.

Buffa - Grants increased physical strength and endurance.

Chameleo - Grants the ability to blend into one's surroundings, although it can be seen through by stronger Phantoms.

Falco - Grants the ability to fly.

Dolphi - Grants the ability to swim and heal using blue magical energy.

The rings that Beast uses in order to don his Mantles may also be used in conjunction with his weapon, the Dice Saber. Inserting a ring into the weapon will roll the die, determining the strength of his attack. A roll of a six will produce a powerful finishing move, with the other numbers decreasing in strength. A roll of a one will produce a rather laughable, utterly useless failure of an attack.

Becoming Beast comes with one huge drawback--Chimera. In gaining the ability to use the Beast Driver, Nitou formed a pact with the monster, and Chimera now lives inside him. In exchange for Nitou's using his power, Chimera requires the consumption of mana, magical energy, from Phantoms, the monsters of Nitou's world. Failure to provide Chimera with a steady source of mana means that he will eat Nitou instead. Unlike the other magical Riders of his world, Nitou does not produce his own mana, and this consumption of magical energy is also vital to his ability to transform into Beast and use Beast's powers.

Beast can enter the psyche of a Gate on the verge of falling to despair and giving birth to a Phantom in order to subdue the Phantom that is attempting to be born. When he does this, he can summon Chimera to assist him in his finishing attack. Defeating a nascent Phantom in this way will remove the Gate's potential magical ability and kill the Phantom.

Nitou also has the ability to summon a Plamonster familiar, a palm-sized monster that can perform small tasks for him. He usually uses his familiar, Gryphon, to carry out surveillance duties and locate Phantoms.

How would they use their abilities?: Nitou's definitely going to make sure he knows where his next meal is coming from. He's also a Kamen Rider even if he doesn't actually have a motorcycle to ride. If there are people who need saving, then he's going to save them--it's in the job description.

Appearance: Nitou usually wears jeans, a yellow t-shirt with a large silver lion on it, and a tan jacket. On top of the jacket, he wears an orange vest trimmed with gray faux fur. The vest has a fur hood with two little animal ears sewn onto it. Most of the time, his belt looks like a normal leather belt with an odd buckle resembling a closed barred gate rather than the gaudy black and gold thing it becomes when the Driver is active. His hair is buzzed rather short on the sides and kept its natural shade of black, while he wears it longer and bleaches it a lighter shade of brown on the top. His body language tends to be rather relaxed, and Nitou can often be seen carrying around a squirt bottle of Japanese mayonnaise, which he will gleefully squirt onto everything he might eat. Everything.

Background/Personality: As a child, Nitou was a rambunctious sort who didn't often exercise such silly things as caution. He spent much of his time running around exploring and getting into the sorts of trouble that contributed to his grandmother's eventual gray hair. She was always a large part of his life, although the boy grew up with a tendency to attribute her general "KOUSUKE, NO!" attitude towards his inclination to get into potentially hazardous situations as her being too strict and unhappy with him. By the time he left for college, he figured he would never be able to please her.

He's always had an affinity for history. When he was a child, nothing would excite him more than finding a small fossil while out on one of his long unsupervised, grandmother-alarming nature walks. It's this affinity that led him to go to college to study archaeology, and it's this line of study that directly leads into his becoming Kamen Rider Beast. While he was studying, Nitou went off on an archaeology dig on his own.

This dig turned out to change his life, because he found a few ancient relics, namely Beast's rings and the Beast Driver. Upon touching the Driver, Nitou found himself talking to Chimera, who offered him great power in exchange for mana. Chimera didn't offer Nitou a chance to back out of the deal, and Nitou was almost immediately attacked by monsters, pressuring him into the deal even further. He transformed into Kamen Rider Beast for the first time that day, and he was able to fight and successfully defend himself.

The mana that Chimera was after could only be acquired through feeding off of Phantoms, monsters born when humans with the potential to use magic, called Gates, fell into despair and died. Nitou didn't really know how the Phantoms were formed, just that they were monsters and he now had to eat those monsters before the Chimera inside him ate him first.

Now that he needed mana to survive, Nitou went to Tokyo in the hopes of finding Phantoms more frequently. The Phantoms of the city were very active, and they were constantly hunting down Gates in the hopes of driving them to despair and bringing about the birth of more Phantoms. It didn't take him long to run into Souma Haruto, Kamen Rider Wizard. Haruto mistook him for a Gate and kept dragging him away from fights and insisting that he needed to be protected for his own good, much to Nitou's irritation. He saw Haruto as a rival who wanted to steal his food, and Haruto was shocked when Nitou finally got a chance to fight as Beast. Nitou was shocked in turn when Haruto said he didn't need to feed off of mana in order to survive; Haruto's mana came from being a Gate in danger of falling into despair who overcame that despair to conquer that Phantom inside him.

It wasn't long before one of the stronger Phantoms in the area, Medusa, approached him in the human form of her Gate. She told Nitou that Haruto was lying to him, and that Haruto also needed mana to survive--how else would things work? She also reminded him that Haruto's determination to wipe the Phantoms out and prevent any new Phantoms from being born would ultimately kill Nitou in the end. Without Phantoms, where would the mana come from?

Nitou believed her at first, and he tried to stop Haruto from protecting a Gate. When he realized that the Gate would actually have to die, this created a crisis of conscience. Haruto insisted that Nitou stop worrying about his tomorrow and focus on today, and with that line of thought, Nitou was able to dedicate himself to fighting Phantoms and protecting Gates. Haruto also offered to rid Nitou of Chimera, but that would come at the cost of Nitou's powers as Beast. Nitou refused; he still wanted to fight as Beast. He also still saw himself as Haruto's rival, even though Haruto seemed more exasperated with that insistence than anything else.

Nitou soon received a bit of a shock when his grandmother came to town, and she wanted him to return home with her. It was clear to him that she was far too strict and didn't understand him, and it was clear to her that he didn't care for her. Even worse, his grandmother turned out to be a Gate, and the Phantoms were targeting her. He at first tried very hard (to ridiculous extents) to make sure she didn't know he was Beast, but he failed at that in the end. When his grandmother realized that Nitou needed to consume Phantoms to survive, she was ready and willing to sacrifice herself to become a Phantom so that Nitou would be able to consume that Phantom and keep surviving.

The experience caused each of them to see that the other had loved them all along, and it made their relationship stronger. This became most evident when the Phantoms decided that the best way to drive her into despair was to hurt Nitou. Nitou was able to work with Haruto to make sure his grandmother stayed safe and despair-free, and he took her home to safety in the end.

Currently, Nitou is living as a tent-dwelling nomad, protecting Gates as the need arises and rushing headlong into any situation in which a Phantom is involved. His most recent exploits involved his mistaking the twin sister of Medusa's Gate (and human form) for Medusa herself. Instead of taking care of a dangerous Phantom, he terrified a harmless, perfectly normal high school student. Since he did this in a vicinity of a police officer, he got himself thrown in a holding cell for a little while. Making this worse was the fact that he knew one of the detectives at the police station, and she decided to just leave him in there until she could get to the bottom of things. What harm could he do from inside a prison cell? It's at this point that he gets picked up by the Thor.

Personality-wise, one of Nitou's major driving forces is his need for mana. This seems to extend to a need for food in general--the guy just loves to eat. He'll eat just about anything and everything, and making sure he knows where his next meal is coming from is very important to him. This seems to be more important to him than a stable place to live; he's nomadic enough that he can carry around all of his possessions with him. He lives in a tent that he'll pitch wherever he feels is a good place to stay for the night, and he's not always good about making sure he's not on private property before doing so. He will gladly wander to where the best food sources are.

One of Nitou's defining quirks is his love of mayonnaise. To him, it's the best food in the world, and he's never without his mayonnaise bottle. He puts mayonnaise on everything. Ramen, donuts, you name it, he'll put mayo on it. He is also very willing to share and oblivious to everyone else's unease with that, and he'll insistently squirt mayo all over everyone else's food if they're not careful.

Nitou has also shown himself to be a bit too trusting. He's not an outright gullible idiot and won't believe everything he's told, but he can be very easy to fool. When he first meets Haruto, he has trouble with the idea that Haruto doesn't also have to feed on mana to survive. Medusa, a Phantom, exploits this, telling him that Haruto lied to him. He believes her and fights Haruto for a bit before her lie is exposed. On another occasion, he's watching over an archaeology professor who is also a Gate. This professor has just found artifacts relating to Beast, is ambitious but unsuccessful, and knows Nitou's Beast equipment would be valuable to his research. When he returns with a bit of wine so they can celebrate the research, it's all too easy for him to get Nitou to drink himself to sleep, leaving Nitou vulnerable to the theft of his Driver and rings. (This takes place a little after his current canon point, but since he doesn't change much within the span of those two episodes, I felt it valid.) Nitou tends to assume that people are generally going to be honest with him, in part because he's generally going to be honest with them.

It's also important to note that one of the reasons Medusa was so easily able to deceive him was because Nitou thought she was cute. Even after he knows she's a Phantom and would kill him in a heartbeat, he still thinks she's kind of cute. He has a weakness for good-looking women, and that, combined with his normal tendency to fail to pick up on how others might be perceiving his actions, can cause problems here and there.

Nitou's motto is "Turn danger into opportunity," and he's a rather brash, enthusiastic sort. He gets excited when Phantoms attack rather than worried about why they're attacking or who they're attacking. The fights are fun, as well as a source of a good meal! He also tends to form opinions rather quickly, and dissuading him of these opinions can be rather difficult. When he first meets Haruto, he's convinced that because he has to consume mana, Haruto must, too, and that because he sees Haruto as a rival, Haruto must see him as one as well. It's another reason Medusa had such an easy time of fooling him--what she was saying went along with his own biases.

He readily jumps to conclusions, and he doesn't always think things through. When he thinks he sees Medusa sneaking into a high school, he immediately accosts her without any thought as to what it might look like to any observer thinking a crazy man is attempting to drag away an obviously frightened schoolgirl. (He also got bonus creeper points for loudly going on about how he was going to eat her, which is how he addresses Phantoms of any sort.) It was a situation that called for stealth, but Nitou didn't take the time to think things through to that degree (and likely would have failed hard at stealth anyway). Everyone else who knew him decided to just leave him there in jail for a while until Beast was needed--he couldn't get into any more trouble that way. Nitou doesn't seem to care what anyone else thinks of him or his behavior.

Nitou is usually unaware of the feelings of others to a certain degree. It's not like he's trying to be cruel or anything; he's just dense. Much of his conflicted relationship with his grandmother stems from his lack of awareness of her feelings. He thinks she's simply eternally unhappy with him and far too strict, and he doesn't think she loves him. He later realizes that she only acted that way because she was worried for his safety and well-being, and that she really does love him. He also realized that he failed to consider the little things that showed she did care; the memories that played into his own biases were the ones that took the most precedence. To be fair, she wasn't all that good at communicating this to Nitou, either, and much of the misunderstanding was mutual.

Improvisation is something Nitou is very good at, even if his ideas are a bit odd. When his grandmother comes to town and is attacked by Phantoms, he doesn't want her to know he's Beast, but when the attacking Phantoms are overwhelming Haruto, he has to spring into action. Even though his grandmother would have absolutely no way of knowing who he was because he would be wearing a face-concealing helmet and therefore unrecognizable, he feels the need to go the extra mile. Just keeping quiet so she wouldn't recognize his voice isn't enough. He springs into battle loudly proclaiming himself to be a magical girl, complete with high-pitched voice, magical girl style body language, and "tee hees" everywhere. Later on, when he's trying to get her back home safely and away from the Phantoms and the city, he doesn't want to go with her in person because they've had a fight, but he still wants to watch over her. He dons a disguise with a ridiculous wig, fake mustache, and sunglasses to follow along.

Thanks to Haruto, he's learned that he shouldn't always worry about his tomorrow--he also needs to protect people in the present. Fighting Phantoms is more about saving people than it used to be for him, although it's still obvious that taking the Phantoms' mana is very important too. When Haruto offers to enter his Underworld and kill Chimera for him, Nitou refuses despite the fact that this would remove his need for mana. Without Chimera, he wouldn't be able to become Beast and save people. He doesn't go out and admit this, though, claiming instead that he doesn't want a dude putting any rings on him. (Considering the ring-based nature of their magic, this would have had to have been a thing for Haruto to defeat Chimera.)

1st person sample:

[The video feed cuts on, showing a rather bored-looking Nitou.]

Maaaan, I'm so hungry...there's gotta be good stuff to eat in space, right? So many different aliens and things running around here, and they've all gotta eat, don't they?

[He doesn't look quite so bored anymore at the thought.]

So! People of the Thor! Tell me where the best places are to get a bite to eat around here! Don't be shy--if I'm gonna be here for awhile, I'm gonna have to eat a lot! I'll be sure to try them all! I'm not picky, so recommend anything and everything, because it's gonna be an adventure!

[There is a cheeky grin and a wink.]

And if you're cute, maybe I'll buy you lunch. What do you say?

3rd person sample:

If there was one thing being on a spaceship involved, it was all sorts of interesting new foodstuffs. And if there was one thing Kousuke Nitou liked to do, it was eat. It hadn't taken long for Nitou to find an area just loaded with restaurants. "All right!" He clapped his hands in anticipation. "It's lunchtime!"

Without wasting any time, he rushed into the nearest restaurant and started checking out the menu hanging above the counter. "Huh, I don't know what any of this stuff is...being in space is harder than I thought..."

"Hey, human! I ain't got all day!" The large gelatinous alien behind the counter didn't look like he was too impressed with Nitou's confusion.

"Alright, alright! Gimme one of those!" Nitou randomly pointed at something on the menu with a bit of an indignant huff. "So pushy..."

"Huh. Wouldn't have expected a human to have such taste..." The surprised alien turned around to bellow at the kitchen, "ONE NUMBER FOUR, HOLD THE TENTACLES!" He turned back to face Nitou. "It'll be out in a minute, kid. Take a seat over at the bar."

Eagerly, Nitou did as he was instructed. He was rubbing his hands in anticipation. Moments later, a bowl of...something was deposited in front of him. "Eeeehhh?!" This was, of course, a perfectly natural reaction to something that looked like a big bowl of Jell-O with eyeballs. Nitou couldn't help but wonder what the other stuff on the menu was if the proprietor claimed this to be a sign of good taste.

"What's the matter, kid? That's what you ordered. You tellin' me my food's not good enough for some smug human?"

Nitou stared at it. This was not at all what he expected, but this was theoretically food (very theoretically), and he was rather hungry. There was only one thing to do. Out came the bottle of mayonnaise. This food was dangerous, but in its danger, there was opportunity.

"What are you doing?!" The alien seemed torn between offended and alarmed.

"Putting mayonnaise on it!" Nitou doggedly squirted ungodly amounts of the white substance into the gooey bowl of eyeballs. "If I'm gonna eat it, it's gotta have mayonnaise!"

Now the alien was just offended. "You're ruining it, that's what you're doing, you little no-taste punk!"

"No, I'm making it better!" With the mayonnaise in place, Nitou took an experimental bite. It wasn't nearly as bad as it looked. "See? You try!" As the alien sputtered in indignation, Nitou shoved a spoonful into its mouth. "It's good!"

"GET OUT OF MY RESTAURANT! WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO, POISON ME?!" Anyone walking by the establishment at that time would be privy to the sight of Nitou, still clinging to his bottle of mayonnaise, getting bodily flung through the door by a giant blobby alien.

Questions?: Is it safe to assume he'll be able to find some random source of magic to feed off of aboard the ship? I plan on trying to find a mana source of some sort for him ICly, but if that goes a bit slowly, I'd have to handwave something so he doesn't die.

...though if there is no mayonnaise in space, he may very well die of a broken heart anyway.

Did you put your characters name and fandom in the subject: Sure did!
